How did your career start with the Normandy Hotel and how did you get to where you are now?
I started in January 2012 as Food & Beverage Manager and was very quickly promoted to Operations Manager and within the last few months I have become Head of Operations. I am very happy developing in my current role although my future goal is to become a General Manager.
What were your first impressions of working here? What was your first day like?
My first impressions were the main reception and public areas were very clean and tidy and the staff /managers were all very warm and welcoming. My first day was busy and eventful due to Christmas lunches and festivities being served within numerous function suites.
What’s your proudest achievement so far?
The hotel being nominated finalists then winners of ‘Scotland’s Best Tribute & Entertainment’ Venue for 2015, 2016 & 2017.
What tips would you give someone starting off at the Normandy Hotel and what are your future ambitions?
Go for it! Hotels allow you to gain exposure across a variety of fields and departments so that you can grow professionally within the company as well as the industry. The hospitality industry is exciting, ever changing and no 2 days are the same. Remain positive in all situations.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? How have these things helped at work?
I like to try to keep as fit as possible, socialise with close friends and family and try to relax on holidays and during my time out of work.
Keeping relaxed and fit help me in my role as Head of Operations in a busy hotel. My job provides incredible opportunities to build relationships with a great range of people.
