The start of a New Year is one of the most important occasions in the Scottish events calendar and even with celebrations happening across the world, we’d argue that our wee country does it best. We love nothing more that a good old Scottish tradition here at The Normandy, and this is never more true than with our First Footers of the New Year!
First Footers are traditionally the first people you welcome into your home after ‘The Bells’ in the New Year, and would often come bearing gifts of coal, salt, bread or whisky – now wouldn’t that be nice? It was hoped that these first visitors would bring with them good luck and prosperity to you and yours over the coming year, and so you had to choose your First Footers very wisely. Traditionally, the ideal First Footer in a Scottish home would be a tall, dark and handsome gentleman and whilst we certainly don’t object to anyone of this description joining us this Hogmanay, we have taken a much more inclusive approach to our celebrations. Here at The Normandy we would like to invite you all to join with us in welcoming in 2019, which we hope will be a year of joy and plenty for everyone, with our First Footers dinner and dance.
Join us this December 31st to enjoy a gorgeous 3 course meal starting with homemade soup, followed by a braised beef roast or veggie curry main to then finish with a little bit of indulgence with the chef’s special cheesecake. We’ll also have our legendary compere Shuggy Wuggy to kick off our New Year celebrations at 6pm before our Tribute Showband, Splash and their Scottish Legends Tribute take to the stage to perform and help you celebrate the New Year with the entire family! Splash will be bringing you all the classic hits from Deacon Blue, Del Amitri and Simple Minds to name just a few, so you’re guaranteed to be dancing and singing in 2019 with all your favourites.
That’s right – our First Footers event truly welcomes everyone with adults and kids alike all invited to celebrate with us. Not only that, but under 3s can even join us for free. So please do join us this New Year as we’d love nothing more than for you and your loved ones to be our First Footers – but maybe leave the coal at home!
